COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

NO , our Yoga NRG Teachers are very skilled at offering modifications and options for each individual to practice at their own edge. There is no evidence to say that more flexible people are more healthy people however there is evidence to suggest that people who practice Yoga are more in tune with their body and what it needs at any given moment.

Practicing any type of yoga will build strength, but some types may not raise your heart rate enough to make them the only form of exercise you need to include in your weight loss regime. It depends on the type of yoga you select and how frequently you practice it.

Our Power Yoga classes, Core Yoga classes and Hot Yoga are all ideal classes for losing weight due to increasing the heart rate and sweating. Keep in mind however that in order to lose weight, you must eat healthily and burn calories by doing exercise that raises your heart rate on a regular basis.

The biggest reason for its weight loss benefits is that yoga helps us to change our relationship that we have with food, your body becomes cleaner and more sensitive to knowing what foods are healthy for you and which foods are not. You naturally begin to eat better without trying to hard, it is a natural progression the more you practice yoga.

YES YES YES!
The founder of Yoga NRG Tammy Pascoe (Williams) has trained with and taken classes with some of the worlds most well known yoga teachers – Baron Baptiste, Bryan Kest, John Friend, just to name a few (obviously all who are MEN) Men are concerned that they will not be welcome in a yoga class or that they are not flexible enough to try yoga. This is a basic misconception: yoga will improve your flexibility, but you do not need to be flexible to do it. Since yoga has been practiced by men for so long, many of the poses actually make more sense for a man’s body and some require a lot of upper body strength, which women often lack at first.

Yes you can however we advise that you visit your GP to get clearance and if you have not practiced yoga before we advise that you wait until after the first trimester to attend. It is ideal to attend our Restorative Classes and Pregnancy Classes. We do not advise attending Hot Yoga whilst you are pregnant unless you have clearance from your GP and are a regular participant of Hot Yoga prior to your pregnancy.

Do I need to practice Yoga on a mat and what should I do about a slippery Yoga Mat?

At Yoga NRG we do require you to practice yoga on a mat to ensure safety, support and comfort. Outdoors and carpet studio floors are not as supportive, pleasant or ideal as a Yoga Mat – especially your own yoga mat!

Keep using your mat, and it will soon acquire a slip-free surface. If sweaty palms are causing you to slip, try placing a hand towel across the front of your mat. You can use it to dry your hands, and also place your palms on the towel when doing poses like Down Dog. Just make sure the towel is on the mat, so it doesn’t slide. If you continue slipping, you may want to look into an anti-slip product like the Yogitoes Skidless towel. Premium yoga mats such as the all rubber Jade or the Manduka Black Mat also provide better traction.

You are welcome to come along to any yoga class with us however if you have not done yoga before or any physical activity for awhile it is ideal to take advantage of our Essentials of Yoga Workshops & Core Yoga Series.

These courses will help you with the correct alignment and provide time for you to get to know the postures before attending one of the Power Yoga or Hot Yoga classes.

Having said that – each teacher will give options and cater the class to what they see in front of them. There is no ‘one size fits all’ in Yoga so each class is approached slightly differently depending on who is in the class.
