“Don’t let your mind bully your body”
This quote is a favourite of mine as it is a great example of Yoga! The first two Limbs of the 8 Limbed path of Yoga are the Yama’s + Niyamas
There are 5 of each which are suggestions in how we can treat ourselves and others to help us still the mind) The first Yama is Ahimsa which means Non-harming or Non-violence Our mind can be one of the most violent if we do not learn how to befriend it. For example telling our body we “should” go further in a Yoga Pose regardless of the sensations we maybe feeling, or “give up you’re no good at it anyway” .
Both of these thoughts are harmful to the body, both will cause tension & DIS-EASE . Any thoughts resembling ‘you are not good enough’ feeds self rejection and the mind pulls rank disturbing the hearts natural desire to simply want to LOVE.
These are just some of the many examples the mind bullies our body. On the other hand the mind can be one of our most powerful tools when harnessed! The word YOGA comes from ‘yuk’ to ‘yolk’ to “Harness” The yogis understood that our mind can be violent at times especially toward ourselves. Learning how to “harness the mind” is vital for us to relieve the suffering the mind causes so our heart can do its job of being at ease to LOVE. Our mind can be our biggest bully but when harnessed can be our beloved friend.
Step 1 Know that you’re breathing in. Know that you’re breathing out.
Step 2. Train the mind to DO NO HARM! & Let go of self doubt.
Step 3. Breathing in I notice my whole body. Breathing out I give thanks to my whole body.
