You can heal your life is one of the most powerful statements I think Ive come across. One of my first introductions into Personal Development and Self Help was from Louise Hay , Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra.
In honour of Louise Hays passing, I flick open a book that I read over sixteen years ago, I had highlighted and folded the page corners reading passages that had helped give me perspective and faith, but most of all at that time helped me understand the power of forgiveness.
Although Louise Hay was referring to cancer when asked :
“Why is understanding important”
I remember her answer resonating with me :
“With understanding the forgiveness process began, and its forgiveness that helps you release resentment” the context that Louise Hay gives is what really stood out…….a light bulb moment actually
I will leave it up to you to go on and read the book to read the context she gave and why understanding is key . Todays Wisdom (also co-authored by Deepak Chopra, Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer, Terah Collins, Doreen Virtue and Leon Nacson still sits on my shelf today and her words still touch a special space in my heart, because forgiveness is relevant to every human being. It became even more relevant during my career as a nurse and now working delivering Yoga and Mindfulness Based Therapy with those who have been through various forms of trauma.
I also got immense value from the You Can Heal Your Life Affirmation Kit that I used as a School Based Youth Health Nurse when working with at risk youth and the book “Gratitude” as helpful resources to support those going through extremely challenging situations in their life.
Louise Hays words of wisdom has also given me perspective and support when working in England in a nursing home for AIDS patients, to help get my head around what these people were going through, through no fault of their own. I was inspired by the work that Louise had talked about in her experience of running groups for AIDS counselling.
“Im not going to do anything different with you than I do with anyone else. We are going to work on forgiveness; we are going to work on releasing resentment; we are going to work on loving ourselves; and we’re going to do everything we can to look at this in a positive light. We are not going to sit here and play “aint it awful”
All great teachers I’ve come across have indicated that the experience you have is the best teacher and being aware of the experience you are having is one way we can practice Mindfulness. So in honour of a great teacher I share a little passage from Louise Hay , when she was asked
“What did the experience teach you”?
“That each one of us is on a path, and sometimes we move forward and sometimes we move back, and sometimes it seems as though we stand still. And then we think, Oh if I could just get over there!
But there will always be over there, because when we get ‘over there’ it becomes ‘here’
So lets enjoy where we are, what we are doing and what we are learning in this moment, because when we are ready to get to the next step it will unfold before us. But if we don’t enjoy this moment today, we won’t enjoy the next one either. We will always be impatient for life to begin.
We are all students on the pathway. Some of us may have learned a little more than others, that’s all. And education is about bringing out what we already know. Ive still to meet a teacher that hasn’t lived through many many dark nights of the soul.
“The work I do on myself is not a goal. It is a process and I choose to enjoy the process”
Thankyou Louise Hay !
