Some territory looks inviting on the surface and you just want to swim in it . Nature can teach us a lot about the mind. We can be pulled by desire and dive into things without thinking of the consequences.
Like swimming in all the bullshit stories of the mind. Or swimming in gossip from other people’s minds. It may look or feel tempting and before we even consider the consequences we have dived in. Drowning in it before we even realise what we are doing. Initially it may look inviting but it doesn’t mean it’s going to be good for us. Not all environments are safe to swim in! In fact they can be harmful !
You don’t know this just from looking at the surface. You learn it from people who have been there before you. Who have taken the time to learn from mapping the territory.
They begin to see patterns in nature. The law of cause and effect. The Yogis call this law karma. Am thankful to all the teachers who remind us from their experience to look deeper than our initial desires. To question them.
Gratification from following certain desires and impulses will be short lived if you are not looking beneath the surface to see what’s really there. Don’t be fooled by external conditions . Wait and “see” .
Yoga and Mindfulness teaches us to discern . Sometimes we don’t know what to do and that’s okay. Having the experience is how we learn.
