Thinking of becoming a Thai Yoga Massage practitioner?

Thai Yoga Massage

Essential Level Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner, TYM for elderly & pregnancy, Thai foot reflexology.

I first heard about Thai Yoga Massage or TYM when I was studying to become a yoga teacher in 2011. I didn’t give it much thought at first because I was so bogged down in the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali’s Sutras! But by the end of the year I finished my yoga studies and went on yoga retreat at Byron Bay. There was Thai Yoga Massage on offer for a reasonable price. I had no idea what to expect, I just wanted to be pampered after a big year of study and tonnes of yoga classes.

I was instructed to arrive at the yoga hall in comfortable clothing. I entered the hall where there were two big mats laid-out on the floor. I chose a mat to sit on and my TYM practitioner asked a few basic questions about my health and what kind of pressure I like. She told me to take a few nice breaths in a comfortable seated position and this beautiful yoga massage began to flow. My eyes were closed the entire 90 minutes while my limbs were guided into assisted stretches and twists while massage techniques were applied. I felt so grounded right away. I felt a deep sense of heaviness and surrender, a complete letting go. There was a sense of being far away in my dreamlike thoughts while I allowed the massage to unfold. It was an extremely nurturing experience, like being rocked like a baby all while being stretched into yoga poses. There was the traditional chopping techniques that one would expect from an Asian style massage, plus knocking, and stroking or “sweeping” as the practitioner calls it. This was a massage I immediately wanted more of. I could feel the benefits and knew this was something I would want to share with my yoga students, friends and family.

Fast forward to 2012 and I undertook Level 1 TYM training with my now mentor, Heather Agnew of Yoga Trinity. This is a practice that I have fallen intimately in love with! I have delivered 100’s of Thai Yoga Massages and found my niche in TYM for pregnancy. This is a massage that is just as lovely to give as it is to receive and allows me the comfort and convenience of working from home.

I love this massage so much that each time Heather delivered a level 1 training at the Sunshine Coast, I sat in to assist and receive more massage plus really hone in my technique. Now in my 5th year of delivering Thai Yoga Massage I am completing my Train the Trainer program and will be delivering my first Level 1 Thai Yoga Massage practitioner Training at Yoga NRG Studio in Currimundi Qld from 30 June – 4 July 2016.
