Like adults, young people have a centre that is peaceful and happy – which they can learn to access with Yoga and Meditation. Bob Roth shares;
“The more they practice the more they can find their centre and become less reactive, calmer. When they do get stressed it goes away faster than it does in kids that don’t meditate. Kids who meditate generally sleep better, are more able to keep things in perspective, and more generally find it easier to get through life with less wear and tear ”
Evidence shows that meditation helps impulsive kids be more thoughtful, and helps emotionally reactive kids to self-regulate. The brains pre frontal cortex is able to better modulate their amygdala, giving them a greater sense of control. (Dr. Stixrud)
After all, the harder you are on anything the faster you wear it out (one of my first teachers Bryan Kest often says). Which to me implies then the more you take care of something the longer it will last.
When you practice yoga or meditate, everyone benefits
Teaching people yoga and meditation, so many more will benefit including our little people. Over the last twenty-four years of working in the areas of health promotion, prevention etc which included roles such as School Based Youth Health Nursing, it has been re-affirmed again and again just how helpful Yoga and Mindfulness is to our kids and those working with kids. Going into schools and training staff to incorporate mindfulness into the curriculum and in various ways in the classroom has been extremely worthwhile and without a doubt creates a ripple effect.
Mindfulness and Yoga not only helps our little people it helps us as adults of course. It can help us figure out what we really want from life itself. As we get older, to want to simply contribute in some way shape or form is a common desire.
Personally, teaching Yoga and Mindfulness and teaching others how to teach it is a great way to help people live a more purposeful and joyful life.
I look forward to sharing more benefits and why Yoga and Mindfulness actually works at our classes and training programs. For those of you who cannot access the live events, we offer remote support. You can also write to us to receive free meditation and yoga classes.
Namaste,
Tammy
